Beware! The Yahooze Fellas Are Back!!!

yLovely Nigerians, how are you all today? Fine. And your bank accounts? Hold it! Not a word of "fine" from you now. BEWARE, the ATM fraudsters are really back with stunning force.

As the Editor-in-Cheif of "Unwired Magazine", checking up on my email box once-in-a-while is an inevitable ritual I have to perform every second to catch up with the latest development in the IT sector/industry. And so today, my computer faces with an innocent, fairly genuine email from the "supposed" INTERSWITCH" company (you know, the company that handles everything about the operation of your ATM cards), offering a new security product from them called "MAXI-SECURE".

To be straight-to-the-point, I had the web site checked and discovered the web address was fraudulent.

Ever Heard About Windows Seven (7)?

Screenshot of Windows 7 Milestone 1 Build 6519. In this preview screenshot, the only visible differences from Windows Vista are the button to show all icons in the system tray, which points upward instead of leftward and a new gadget on the Windows Sidebar for beta testers to send feedback.

The best (according to Microsoft) is underway after the Vista operating system software. Windows 7 will be the successor of Microsoft Vista in, hopefully a few months from now.

Desktop context menu showing the new link to the Display property window and options for Gadgets.

Windows 7, the new operating system from Microsoft Corporation will only improve on very minor features of Vista, including the Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer and Windows Media Center components, with additional gadgets to make the software more user-friendly.

Also notable improvements will be featured in the increased graphics acceleration capacity that will make Vista look like a baby's toy. The Calculator application will also come with "Programmer" and "Statistics" modes. Not to be excluded from the list will be updated versions of the inbuilt "Paint" and "WordPad" programs. To cap it all, the time for the installation process of Windows 7 will be a record-breaking 10 minutes!

Without doubts, this could be the next big thing since the invention of the computer itself. "Unwired" sure hopes Nigerians will be fully ready and prepared for changes like this...

Does the Word, "Computer" Mean Anything to You?

Well, if it doesn't (or you think it does?) mean SOMETHING, here's a helpful link to make you save some face in front of more knowledgeable fellows.

Behold the New Face of Nigerian Computing Power!

It is no doubt that before or on the year 2012, by the grace of God, Nigeria could start competing with such countries such as India, Japan and even the US, compu-wise. This will very much be a reality if we start tolling the lines Mr Philip Emeagwali has successfully towed.

Describable as "the Bill Gates of Africa", Mr (or Professor, rather) Philip Emeagwali is the first (black) inventor ever to build a super-computer that can calculate 3.1 billion calculations per second! Simplified enough, it's like having a car that can travel the world in 30 minutes. Excellent, right! Well, he started from somewhere.

The young Philip Emeagwali was the first child of nine children, from a fairly well-to-do family. Due to the hard times the family was facing financially, Emeagwali was forced to drop out of school at the age of 14 in the Onitsha of old, located in Anambra State (Nigeria) where he hails from. Equipped with private study and the local library, and blessed with sheer and unnatural determination, Emeagwali excelled in the sciences, especially Mathematics. This was demonstrated when he passed his GCE examinations with flying colours, even with being out of school officially.

This feat and a promising career in the sciences earned him a scholarship from Oregon University in the US. This is how he journeyed on to where he is today.
For many people in the world of IT, this man has become their personal hero, (including yours-sincerely). To us, Nigerians, this is a call to rise up above our underlying conditions to face the world squarely with new discoveries, inventions and technology. We cannot keep on keeping on with blaming the nation about our seemingly handicapped state, neither should we keep quiet and pretend that IT is for the rest of the world, excluding us Nigerians. Nigerians are better than the best...ANYWHERE!

Windows XP to be off the Market by June 30: Good or Bad News for Nigerians?

The man at the helms of affairs at Microsoft, Mr Bill Gates (now said to be the 2nd richest man in the world after Warren Buffet) earlier last year, announced that Windows eXPerience would be off the market by January 30. But as providence would have it, the date has been moved to June 30th. But the question for Nigerians will be: is this a good or bad omen. This will arise from the fact that Windows XP has come to be the favourite operating system for Nigerians. Not even the release of Windows Vista will seperate Nigerians from the love of Windows XP, as Windows Vista has been confirmed not to be "that perfect". Most Windows Vista migrants are hurriedly coming back prodigally to Windows XP.

As Nigerians always survive any condition, pirated copies will always be available. But the official sales and updates of Windows XP will be history, and most likely Windows Vista will be forced on everyone, love it or not.

But this will bring a particular question to mind: why can't Nigerians experiment with other Operating System softwares like Linux or Unix? Our dependence on Microsoft for everything is not encouraging. Better still, we could come up with our own operating system, can't we? (Smiles...)

The Newest IT/Computer Intellectual Revolution in Nigeria

Hail Naija, Hail Unwired Magazine! Heralding the newest and the most popular computer magazine in Nigeria. Hail, " Unwired Magazine ". From the ashes of one individual's frustration and agony over the alarming and hurting rate of illiteracy in Nigeria, especially in the IT sector, "Unwired Magazine" has been sworn to become the answer, or at least the beginning of the panacea to the dearth of the national Information Technology deficiency. The magazine's official launch will, hopefully be due on or before the 30 of November, 2008. With the magazine being in the fore-front of this battle, the company, Unwired Incorporated that publishes the magazine, has planned out other particular IT awareness programmes focused primarily on Nigeria. This also will include an NGO. Revelation of further plans will be revealed as time goes by. The spokesman/public relations director of the company, has appealed to the general Nigerian public to join the vision, as the vision is not only for one, but for the nation at large.
